Front-End Engineer (React/React Native/Ruby on Rails)

  • Frontend, Full Stack
  • Permanent
  • London, UK

Hello friend! 👋 We're looking for a talented Front-End Engineer such as yourself to join Portify and our lovely team.

Here's a little more about the job:

  • A few years commercial experience writing modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • A few years commercial experience with JavaScript frameworks (we use React and React-native, but we're totally happy if your experience is in other frameworks like Vue)
  • Experience in designing and building production grade APIs (both internal and external facing)
  • Bonus points for 1-3 years of full-stack experience, preferably with Ruby (on Rails) — but don't worry if none, we can teach you!

About the job

We're a rapidly growing FinTech startup on a mission to offer credit enhancement solutions that help our customers access fair financial products. A lot of people are gated out of fair

We’re looking for a Front-End Engineer who will work closely with the engineering-design-product (EDP) team and growth team to design and build Portify's user-facing app, websites and internal tools, ensuring users have a high-quality and seamless experience.

Our Stack

If you're reading this we'll assume you're technical, so let's start by talking about our stack.

We have an app that we're best known for. It's written in React Native and works seamlessly across iOS and Android using a shared codebase.

Behind that, we have an API written in Ruby on Rails. This is the 'backend brain' that powers pretty much everything.

And to manage our users, we have a dashboard. It's written in React in a very similar code style to our app.

The Role

You'll work closely and collaborate with everybody across the company (product, growth/marketing and engineers) to implement versatile front-end solutions for our app (React native) and our dashboard (web). Often you'll need to also make updates to our API to do this — so we'd love you to be able to be full-stack.

As a team, we'll ship fast and often, iterating regularly and focussing on MVPs.

You'll use our design systems and UI patterns with emerging standards while applying best practices.

We want you to manage your own time, to work well both independently and as part of a team. Together we'll apply best practices and be active during planning, pairing, peer reviewing and more.
