Perlego is an electronic library streaming textbooks to students. Perlego is a start up which has been running for 16 months with a beta version of the platform. It is currently in the process of acquiring content and seeking an additional full stack developer to build, improve and refactor the platform.

Perlego are seeking someone that can work from the office in central London. You will need to have the right to live and work in the UK.

Job Description

The company are seeking a full stack developer to complete the build and operation of the Perlego platform. The role will primarily involve front and back end development work across React/Redux, Node.js and Python systems.

You will be expected to be a flexible team player taking on a variety of development activities in our IT team. The ideal developer will be able to think creatively and work under pressure whilst maintaining a commitment to quality.

Key responsibilities:

  • Development and refactoring of web application front end code written in ES6 JavaScript & React/Redux.

  • Development web application back end code written in Node.js /Express.

  • Creation of automated unit tests, integration tests and end to end tests in Jest/Enzyme

  • Contribution to the design of distributed AWS cloud systems.

  • Documentation of work for external review.

  • Participating in Scrum meetings, Retrospectives and engaging in Agile processes.

Person Specification:

Education: degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering:


  • Experience in implementing web applications using Javascript, React/Redux, Node.js using TDD

  • Understanding of best practice in Microservices, design patterns, functional programming, REST and SOLID principles.

  • Strong understanding of web security principles and familiarity with OWASP recommendations.

  • Understanding of Relational Database Design and NOSQL Database design.

  • Understanding of continuous integration, application build and release processes (front and backend)

  • Experience of working in a team of web developers.

Required skills:

  • Build and programming in: MYSQL, Javascript, Node.js, React/Redux, HTML5, CSS

  • Technical skills in: REST, Object Oriented Programming, MVC, Design Patterns, SQL &; NOSQL

  • Database design, Webpack, Functional Programming, Responsive design, Continuous Integration

Required experience: 2 years
