On top of our brilliant Partners, products and customers (not to mention our incredible team who have been busy beavering away from home since 2020), the last couple years have seen great progress with our tech platform and customer experience. We are now looking to build on this momentum to drive our business to the next level. And that’s where you come in.
You'll be working on the customer's journey from the basket onwards, through checkout, to the post-purchase experience. You’ll also be managing services for authentication and user identity.
The customer’s journey is mostly handled by React/Next.js apps backed by GraphQL & REST APIs hosted on AWS. You'll also be relying on serverless APIs and workers and you should be curious to explore interactions with legacy systems written in other languages like Ruby with the help of other dedicated teams.
If you're a product-minded engineer, you'll enjoy the process of setting up A/B tests to measure the impact of your changes. Instrumentation will be key for visibility on how our services are doing using Datadog to track metrics, user sessions, logging and errors. Finally, with the help of our infrastructure team you'll maintain the CI/CD pipelines for our services including full unit, integration and feature tests as well as visual tests with Percy.
Here are some examples of work we've done lately that might give you a better idea of the role:
- Creating a new guest checkout journey for customers
- Setting up Klarna as a payment option
- Integrating checkout to stock management
Looking forward you can expect to work on things like: integrating our new design system and creating new components for our component library. Improving how we present our payment options. Exploring how to improve the customer's post-purchase journey helping them track their orders or raise enquiries with our partners. Migrating to AWS EKS to host our services on Kubernetes.

How we work
Typically engineering teams include 3-5 engineers plus a Tech Lead. Supporting these engineers, the team includes an Agile Delivery Manager, Product Owner and dedicated UI/UX who work closely with the team to make sure everyone is happy and has everything they need to be able to deliver. There is also an Architecture team that plays a consultative role by scoping out which teams are affected by future projects and helps the teams figure out what is required in their domain.
We work in an agile environment. We only introduce processes where necessary and are constantly looking to improve. We strive to practise continuous deployment to gain feedback as quickly as possible.
The day generally starts with a team stand up. You'll then review a colleague's PR or work on your own PR, deploying it to a QA environment to test it in integration with other services. Once a PR is reviewed, keep an eye on monitoring to see the impact on production traffic. On a weekly basis you'll attend planning, retrospectives and project kick-off meetings.
The wider NOTHS tech team is roughly 50 strong with the intention to increase this to support our growth ambitions. Collaboration, knowledge sharing and pragmatism are important to us and how you'll work with others.

We endeavour to support our people to make sure work... well, works for them, and we’ve introduced a new hybrid working month for our Engineering team. So the NOTHS Engineering team get to work flexibly for the majority of the month, and visit beautiful Richmond once a month to ensure we all still get together as one #teamNOTHS. Plus, for 2022 we’ve begun trialling fully remote months in January (to avoid the snow) and August (to enjoy the sun). #teamNOTHS
