Braid is seeking talented full-stack and iOS engineers for an early-stage start-up in the Open Banking and Digital Identity space. We’re currently focused on mid-level engineers, but will be looking to hire / appoint a head of engineering at some point soon (we currently have a highly experienced CTO leading the team). This is a unique opportunity to develop and grow your career by having direct access to and mentorship from an outstanding leadership team (including ex-Mckinsey, ex-Revolut, ex-PwC, and a current Cambridge professor), and to be part of the whole product development process.
This is truly an opportunity to make a genuine difference to a whole lot of peoples’ lives… if you know anyone suffering under credit card debt, or who couldn’t get a mortgage or car loan because of past mistakes then you’ll know what we mean.
Braid is an early-stage start-up in the Open Banking and Digital Identity space.
We’re building a personal financial operating system via a smartphone. The service combines information from users’ different bank accounts, credit cards, mortgages, investment accounts, and other financial products, and helps them optimise their finances. We provide guidance, tips, and suggestions on how to avoid tricks and traps set by banks or credit card companies, and automate money management to help users reach their financial objectives faster – whether that be sticking to a budget, paying down debt, or saving for a holiday.
In the future, Braid will also give the user the ability to prove their identity in a streamlined way. This will minimise the effort required to sign up for a new service, log into online accounts, sign e-documents, approve transactions, prove age or address, or confirm receipt of a delivery.
This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor with a business that has a super-ambitious business model (this will never be a £20 million company, it’s unicorn or bust!). We’ve just completed a pre-seed funding in the summer of 2021 and intend to launch a beta version of our product in the coming months.
The ideal candidate will have 4+ years experience building innovative products that are completely new to the world – we’re not looking to replicate anything that’s already out there.
We are seeking the type of person who wants to make an impact through disruptive ideas and bold innovations, by being an individual contributor and a key team player.
That said, as we are a fintech provider regulated by the FCA, security will be key – you’ll need a strong understanding of current security protection measures as well as be able to think outside the box to predict what future threats might emerge.
From a technical perspective, experience with the following would be highly preferred and beneficial:
Cross platform mobile development experience (i.e. Flutter)
Ability to convert Figma prototype to mobile application
Experience of mobile device security

Native cloud development experience (i.e. GCP, AWS, Azure), specifically notification frameworks, serverless containers, GraphQL and Rest services
Applied application security using JWT, OAuth, key management, verification and encryption
Database and NoSQL experience with Postgres and Redis
- Kotlin and Dart
Tools and frameworks
Spring Boot with exposure to wider ecosystem
Building Docker service images

Other technical skills (“nice to have”)
Scaling services using Kubernetes
Experience of Behaviour Driven Development testing (i.e., cucumber.io, Appium)
Code quality tools i.e., SonarCube

Some personal qualities we’re looking for:
Comfort with ambiguity
- As an early-stage start-up creating a new-to-the-world proposition, ambiguity and uncertainty is a given; if you haven't read The Lean Startup then now would be a good time
Passion to do good
- Our business has a strong social element, focused on financial well-being and inclusivity - if this doesn't excite you, it's unlikely you will excite us
- A degree from a top university isn't necessary, but will be a good indicator that you have the intellectual heft we're seeking. Most importantly, we want you to be excited about the opportunity to navigate some highly complex topics
